We have lightly cleaned these negatives and scanned them emulsion side down (which gives the best focus on our scanner.) This results in an image which is flipped horizontally. Many of these negatives have labels etched into the emulsion; these labels are best read on the flipped image. The first set of items are from her membership in the social sorority XI Delta Pi. There are photographic slides, membership directories and event programs. After that, the items are a bit more jumbled. Roughly, there are three kinds of materials: 1) Purely family items, including both printed items, such as letters, and photographs 2) Fairmount United Church of Christ items, including church directories and photographs 3) Wichita items, including materials about businesses and people. Many of these items are recent, copyrighted, or refer to living people, so, while they are in the digital database, they are not available on the web-based interface. Title A name given to the resource Richard Basore Collection Description An account of the resource Richard Basore has provided us many interesing collections to digitize: The Salmon collection of photographs are from a group of boxes of glass plate negatives. We have lightly cleaned these negatives and scanned them emulsion side down (which gives the best focus on our scanner.) This results in an image which is flipped horizontally. Many of these negatives have labels etched into the emulsion; these labels are best read on the flipped image. We have posted the images straight from the scanner so that the labels are easily readable; the user may wish to flip the image horizontally before using it to get the most accurate image of the individuals in the pictures. Rensink Album A was assembled by John and Clora Rensink while stationed at Ft. Riley in 1938 and 1939. MHGS digitized the album. Rensink Album B was assembled by John and Clora Rensink. It included photos from 1934 to 1939, including family photos and pictures of Ft. Riley. There are also photos and negatives in the front pocket from Clora's son Harold Paul Wells' service in WWII. MHGS digitized the album. "The Great Cretoe" scrapbook and ephemera includes photographs, promotional materials and newspaper articles regarding the circus career of Charles Miller, known as The Great Cretoe. The Charles Smith material covers the life and family of Charles Smith of Halstead, with a focus on his career with the YMCA in France during WWI. Smith Album A covers Charles Smith's experience during WWI. Smith Album B covers Smith family in Halstead and elsewhere. This album was donated to the Halstead Historical Society and loaned to MHGS for digitizing. Still Image A static visual representation.
