Vol. 1, No. 1 was mailed to all members of the society in November 1979, announcing a covered dish dinner and Family Fun Night. Initially it was to be a quarterly publication to be mailed in between mailings of the Register. However, it wasn't long until became a monthly publication (except for December). In May of 1984 a contest was held to come up with a suitable logo for the ALERT. The winner was Joanne Dike with the submission of three sprigs of wheat over an outline of the shape of Kansas. The current logo first appeared on Vol. 8, No. 6 when the society adopted that logo for the Register and their letterhead. The format changed as methods of production changed. The first being mimeographed copies and the latest production with a desk top publishing program. There were no issues for March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November of 2008 because there was no editor.
